Set along a river in the countryside, Suiran is ideally poised in western Kyoto’s scenic Ukyo-ku.

Witness the majesty of the ever-changing Arashiyama landscape from a comfortably appointed room with floor-to-ceiling windows. Intrinsic to Japanese design, an indoor-outdoor aesthetic is fostered by an abundance of natural light that fills the space. Inspired by the Hozu River’s reflection of moonlight, the vivid azure carpeting pairs polished wood furnishings and high ceilings to enhance this ryokan-style guest room. The flexible seating area features expertly crafted furnishings, including two club chairs, and is ideal for savoring a few meditative moments or in-room dining alongside the view. The room’s open atmosphere flows from the sleeping area to a luminous marble bathroom, which can be closed off by frosted sliding-glass doors. Upscale fixtures include a unique turquoise sink, a walk-in glass-enclosed shower, and a separate deep-soaking bathtub.

Kyo-Suiran combines Meiji Era architecture with contemporary lighting and seating for remarkably authentic and comfortable dining experiences. The menu features a culinary fusion of fresh local ingredients and innovative French preparations. Guests may choose from traditional teppanyaki dishes or Kinshu – a 13-course seasonal dinner. Signature cocktails include the Sagano, which blends the brightness of yuzu and shiso with the dense flavors of whisky aged in Japanese oak barrels.
